Summer Reading Online 2015

Welcome to Summer Reading Online 2015!
This year there are three ways to participate. First, you can set yourself a reading goal -- how many books you want to finish reading by the end of the summer -- and write little summaries/reviews of what you read. Don't want to write a full on review? Don't. Star the books you read in Goodreads or assign them stars in a blog post. Second, you can attempt my Challenge and read from our challenges. Pick the number of challenges you would like to attempt and then choose from my category list. Or third, some combination of the two! You decide.

The method is the same for all three options. You pick whatever books you want, post a blog entry stating your reading goals, and then post your write ups (or stars) after each book. If you want you can even wait to post the write ups 'til near the end of the Summer Reading Program, but I don't recommend it because you have to have everything "turned in" by the last day. Reviews can be as simple or as detailed as you want. List the number of stars you'd give the book or write up a full review. Your choice.

If you're interested, leave a comment here along with the url for whatever site/blog you plan on posting your write ups so we can all read them & see what you're reading. You never know -- someone else might be doing the same book as you, or you might even discover a great new book to check out! I’ll post a link on the side of this blog with your information so everyone can see what you’re reading (and you can see what everyone else is reading!) If you plan on using Facebook as your review spot just make sure any posts you use are marked "public" so we can all see them.

Don’t have a somewhere to post reviews? Comment here with your name, email and goal and I’ll post your reviews for you or add you as an author! Specify your choice in the comments.

You can sign up anytime, and start reviewing your books beginning May 30!  Summer Reading Online will run through August 29.  That'll give us about 12 full weeks of reading.

Prizes. Yes, prizes. There will be at least two prizes this summer, and if you would like to donate something as a prize please comment and I will be in touch with you. I would love some fun local items from where ever you are- things from your library, from your state, etc. All of the prizes will be funded by me or by other participants, so any contributions you can make are very much appreciated.

Please feel free to share this with anyone and everyone!  The more participants we get the better!  A badge for your site will be forthcoming soon.

  1. Thanks for setting this up! I'll do the challenges. I want to do ALL the categories, but 28 is a lot of books in one summer, even for me! So, I'm going to read at least 12, but each one has to count for 2 or more categories (new ones each time). So officially, I'll just be on record for 12 categories, but hope to hit all 28.

I'll post over on Goodreads! You can find me via the GR group.

  4. I don't think I could read 30 books in that time Leisl! I've got some library stuff here that I can send you if you'd like to have some Australian medical library stuff to give away as a prize?

  5. This sounds fun! I am excited to participate- especially with fellow book-lovers/librarians!

I think I'll do the first challenge this summer just to start and if I end up meeting some of the qualifications from the second challenge- cool! :)

So my goal for Summer Reading is: (this is on the minimalist side) 20 books.

    My blog is: http://www.justwordsonapage.weebly.com
and I post all my reviews on Goodreads as well (http://www.goodreads.com/justwordsonapage)

    I'm excited to start reading!

  6. I'm a little late in the game, but I'd like to challenge myself to read 2 YA titles, 3 juvenile titles, and 4 adult titles with at least one non-fiction title for each group. Plus, I will finish Game of Thrones. That's a total of 8 books for the remainder of summer.

  13. What a fantastic--and fun--idea! I am excited to have an SRP to participate in....of course, working at our library means I can't participate in ours! I'm also sharing with my fellow librarians--I'd love to have Kansas represent!

I'm going to try to work on your challenges. They look like a lot of fun!

I'll post my reviews on facebook. I have a Goodreads account, but who has time to update that? :) Wish I did.

    Thanks for doing this!

    1. Mandy, will you share your Facebook profile so I can link you to the participants? You don't need to make your profile public or anything. It would be nice if you made your reviews/progress public though! :)

  14. Ok, so I've already joined the Goodreads group, but thought I would give an "I'm in!" here as well. I will be keeping track of my books on Goodreads for my 2015 Reading Challenge, but am also trying to be good and write reviews over on my blog (https://kailasbookblog.wordpress.com/).
